'Thor: Ragnarok' news, spoilers: Chris Hemsworth's comedic chops to be put to the test, director says

In contrast with the rather somber "Thor: The Dark World" (2013), director Taika Waititi says that "Thor: Ragnarok" (2017), which he is helming, will feature some lightness thanks to the comedic talent of its star, Chris Hemsworth (Thor).
In a recent interview with IndieWire, Waititi said that he is ready to begin filming the third installment in Marvel's "Thor" stand-alone trilogy and that he is planning on coaxing out Hemsworth's comedic genius for the film.
Waititi is known for injecting his specific type of humor into his films, which should be a good thing for the "Thor" franchise after the grim and dry "The Dark World."
"The tone of my films is never full drama or full comedy," Waititi told the online publication. "It's sort of a delicate balance between them."
According to the "Ragnarok" director, he is eager to feature Hemsworth's comedic style after seeing the actor's jokes on "Saturday Night Live" and in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" (2016) reboot.
"It's silly not to use that [Chris' comedy]," he said. "He's so good."
Waititi also spoke about making sure to hit a balance between action and emotion in "Thor: Ragnarok." According to the director, as much as he loves action and spectacle, what he really finds interesting is character. He also admitted that this is usually a hard balance to strike.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Waititi also spoke about the film's progress, saying, "It's going well."
"We're still in prep at the moment," he added. "I don't want to jinx anything, but I feel pretty good about the way things are going."
When asked whether or not he had picked up Mjölnir, Thor's hammer, yet, the director answered, "Yeah, I have actually."
"It was easy!" he teased. "It didn't make me feel worthy, it made me feel responsible, like I had to build something."
"Thor: Ragnarok" is scheduled to hit theaters Nov. 3, 2017.
