'Thor: Ragnarok' set updates: New movie set photos revealed; Taika Waititi talks about working with Marvel

Though Marvel's third movie for the "Thor" franchise, "Thor: Ragnarok," will hit theaters November next year, pictures from the filming set have been gradually released to the public, showing that director Taika Waititi doesn't want to depend so much on CGI built landscapes.
ComicBookMovie.com reports that Waititi's dependence on practical effects is a huge contrast from previous "Thor" movies that depended heavily on CGI. "Thor: Ragnarok" will be Waititi's first attempt at directing a big-budget studio film. His previous works including "Boy," "What We Do in the Shadows," and "Eagle vs. Shark" have usually been low-budget independent films, not to mention most of these are comedy. Thus, handling a fantasy-action movie with a multi-million-dollar budget could prove challenging to the Kiwi director.
So far, only good things have been heard from the production. Waititi has been very open about his interactions with Marvel Studios, saying that the people "don't act like a studio."
"They're cool, smart storytellers. I've been enjoying hanging out with them. And I've made commercials, so I've worked with the worst people in the world. Nothing could be more restrictive than working with people in advertising," said Waititi.
The movie will center around the Ragnarok event in Norse mythology, which is basically the Norse version of the end of the world, so viewers can expect the stakes to be incredibly high for the hammer-wielding hero from Asgard.
Elements from the popular comic "Planet Hulk" will also find its way into the movie. In the comic, the Hulk is banished from Earth and ends up ruling an entire planet via gladiator matches. Rumors say that, in the movie, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will be banished from Asgard by his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), and he will find himself fighting in an arena where he will run into Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), who was last seen flying away on the Quinjet to god-knows-where.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is set to release on Nov. 3, 2017.
