'True Detective' season 3 renewal update: Show still possible but will take a while to come out

Although there hasn't been any update on "True Detective" season 3 after the second season ended last year, reports indicate that a renewal of the hit crime anthology is still part of HBO's plans.
The second season led by Rachel McAdams did not perform as well as the first one. It was criticized heavily and after its finale, no renewal was expected to happen.
President of Programming for HBO Michael Lombardo admitted that it was him to blame for the disappointing turnout of "True Detective" season 2. He admitted to SCPR that he rushed writer Nic Pizzolato to come up with a story.
"I set him up. To deliver, in a very short time frame, something that became very challenging to deliver. That's not what that show is. He had to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. Find his muse," Lombardo recalled.
Pizzolato took a long time to stitch together the first season of "True Detective," which was widely acclaimed. The time constraint he was given for the second season pressured him. Lombardo knows this is never the way to go and is determined not to make the same mistake again.
"And so I think that's what I learned from it. Don't do that anymore," he promised. It was this remark that gave many the hopes that "True Detective" season 3 will soon be a reality.
Taking into account Lombardo's assurance to give Pizzolato all the time in the world to think up a great story, "True Detective" might be back to the small screen sometime in the future and it will make a splash.
Unfortunately, Lombardo's willingness to make things right in "True Detective" season 3 is just half the process. It will still be up to Pizzolato if he wants to continue the promising anthology he started.
Right now, it remains a mystery if Pizzolato will be back to make "True Detective" season 3, although his contract with HBO spanning up to 2018 might just allow for the season to come about.
If Pizzolato decides to work on "True Detective" season 3, it might be a long wait ahead.
