'Watch Dogs 2' leaks 2016: Mocap actor unveils new lead character

"Watch Dogs 2" is getting a new protagonist, according to the actor who claims to have played the character through motion capture. Actor Cort King took to social media last month to announce his gig.

On his Instagram, King posted a photo of the design of who he claimed is the new centerpiece of "Watch Dogs 2." The character definitely looks like someone from the world of the popular shooter.

The post, which included a "Watch Dogs 2" hashtag in the caption, has gone unnoticed for roughly a month, but before a bigger buzz ensues, King took it down. Unfortunately for him, a screenshot of his post was secured by Nerd Leaks.

A cached version of the actor's Instagram also shows the image. Looking at the reactions of "Watch Dogs" fans on the post by Nerd Leaks, majority of them want the original protagonist – Aiden Pearce – back while others want to give the newcomer a try.

Wielding a gun in his right and another sort of device in his left, the "lead character" donned a leather jacket, a cap, a pair of glasses and had a bandana over his mouth for added stealth.

There are still some lingering questions about the image's authenticity, but this could be due to the possibility that the image is an early render of the character, which means that id does not show his final form.

Regardless of its authenticity, this image is the first in a while that popped up about "Watch Dogs 2." The last time the web heard about the sequel to the hit action-adventure shooter by Ubisoft was earlier this year, when Kotaku reported that the sequel will be released holiday this year.

Not long after, Ubisoft confirmed that "Watch Dogs 2" will be released by the end of its 2017 fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017. Last year, a developer from Ubisoft listed the game on his CV.

The new "Watch Dogs" installment is expected to fill in for "Assassin's Creed," which usually occupies Ubisoft's October slate. Rumors suggest the game will move from Chicago to San Francisco.
