'Winds of Winter' spoilers: Big twists and surprises for George R.R. Martin fans

Although "Game of Thrones" has already overtaken its source material, which is George R.R. Martin's "A Series of Ice and Fire," his upcoming book "Winds of Winter" will still have surprises for fans.
When it was first announced by Martin himself that the long-awaited novel will not be released before the show's premiere, many were worried that the HBO series will spoil the book.
However, Martin has tons of tricks up his sleeve. Since "Game of Thrones" made necessary deviations to continue, "Winds of Winter" will feature plot lines that will not be in the series and will not be pulled off by it by any means.
The 77-year-old writer will make use of a character who is dead in "Game of Thrones" but is still alive in his book. There are a lot of characters from Westeros whose small screen versions are already dead.
What's more is that unlike HBO's retelling, "Winds of Winter" won't put the spotlight on Jon Snow, who has been the subject of "Game of Thrones"-related conversations and articles in the past few days. Instead, Tyrion Lannister will be at the heart of the tale.
Rumor has it that he will be the individual that will restore Westeros to its former glory after the Battle of Winterfell. Martin is also speculated to kill off Arya and Bran Stark, who are alive in "Game of Thrones" at the moment and are vital parts of the story.
Meanwhile, Martin is expected to share new information about "Winds of Winter" in the upcoming Balticon 50 event scheduled May 27 to 30 in Hunt Valley, Maryland, where he will be guest of honor.
Also featuring other writers, Balticon 50 will hold an event for Martin called "The Feast of Ice and Fire." There are hopes that the author will give updates on his progress on "Winds of Winter" there.
"Winds of Winter" was rumored to come out this month but there hasn't been any confirmation about this yet.
