'XCOM 2' release date news update: Game now on pre-order on Xbox One with bonus content, launches in September

The turn-based science fiction video game "XCOM 2" will be ready to make a splash on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One on Sept. 6 in North America and Sept. 9 for the rest of the world. Players of the latter can already pre-order and pre-load the game.

Fans can pre-order the game for $59.99, which comes with the Resistance Warrior Pack. Microsoft also offers a $79.99 Digital Deluxe Pre-order version of "XCOM 2," which will endow gamers with the aforementioned bonus content and the Reinforcement Pack, which comes with a whole bunch of goodies.

It includes the Anarchy's Children, which features "more dramatic rebellion-themed soldier customizations." Another is the Alien Hunters, a self-explanatory DLC where XCOM soldiers are transformed into well, alien hunters.

For such a dangerous task, they get "impressive" weapons as well as an armor that will help "XCOM 2" players navigate through the whole campaign as an alien named Rulers goes after them.

The "XCOM 2" pack also promises "cosmetic upgrades" to soldiers and the Avenger and an additional "epic mission" that sees Central Officer Bradford guide a squad with the help of an "old friend."

Lastly, the Reinforcement Pack for "XCOM 2" brings along the Shen's Last Gift, which features the Lost Towers facility where players are led by Chief Engineer Lily Shen in a search for her late father's "secretive final project."

It comes with "a unique new soldier class complete with powerful new combat abilities, strategy mechanics, and customization options."

"XCOM 2" was released to the personal computer (PC) last February. At that time, there seemed to be no console release in sight. However, developer Firaxis Studios eventually decided to bring the "XCOM: Enemy Unknown" sequel to the PS4 and Xbox One.

It was the massive popularity of "XCOM 2" on PC and the demand for a console version that pushed Firaxis to finally bring the title to the legion of gamers in the PS4 and Xbox One.

"The incredible reception of XCOM 2 has been rewarding and humbling for the team, and we've known console fans have been clamoring to play the game too," the game's creative director Jake Solomon stated via The Verge.

"As avid console players ourselves, we're excited to work with The Workshop to bring XCOM 2 to all of our fans," he continued.
